Promenade

Promenade begins in Ostia, a place of belonging and the edge where Rome ends in the sea. The coastline is approached neither as a natural landscape nor as a seaside setting, but as a space that has been built upon, fenced off and consumed. Abandoned beach clubs, empty facilities and beaches exposed to harsh weather reveal the distance between the sea and the forms through which the city has organised access to it and its use. The photographs return to this fracture without attempting to mend it. To photograph is to linger at the point where the city breaks off and the sea continues.
